CHAPTER 52
Levi
âThank God for that, I thought theyâd never leave,â Sadie said as the gates closed after Judeâs car drove out of the driveway. He, Esther and Bailey were the last to leave the following morning. âLook at the state of the place, youâre all animals,â she blurted as she waved her arms around the great room.
Iâll admit it was a mess, but no one had gotten drunk and deliberately trashed it or anything.
After Trinnie and her daughter left, Bailey went to bed and Sadie went back to the pool house. The rest of us played cards. As weâd eaten early with the kids, and the adults drank quite a bit, we became hungry again. No one wanted anything from the pile of leftover takeout food, so Iâd made loaded nachos, popcorn and chips. Much of the leftover nachos had ended up on the floor and a chair thanks to a stray elbow of Gemmaâs.
âThe room only needs a vacuuming,â I suggested.
âMy ass, it only needs a vacuum,â Sadie mocked. âWhat about the guacamole stuck to that chair? Itâs like living in a half-way house sometimes,â she admonished. Bending at the waist, she began raking around the lower kitchen cabinets containing the cleaning products.
âLook after you clean up, Iâm sending you to the mall this afternoon to get yourself some new clothes. Itâs been a while since I spoiled you.â
âI have my own money,â she snapped indignantly, and gave me a glare as if to say she couldnât be bought off.
âI didnât say you donât. But canât your boss appreciate you now and again?â I inquired.
âItâll cost you,â she warned, sounding more mellow. âIâd want a mani-pedi ⦠and maybe a nice new haircut.â
Reaching into my wallet, I took out my black Amex. âHere, make the appointments and do this some damage. Itâs time you had a break ⦠after you clean the shit off that chair of course. In fact, book into a spa for a night and research the attitude of the attendants there. You might learn something.â
âCheeky asshole,â she muttered, but I saw the grin on her face as she ducked her head back into the cupboard again.
As Sadie got into cleaning mode, I debated going for a swim in the ocean, but decided to climb back into bed for a couple of hours instead.
